Mary Lou Miller, 83, of Manilla passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Rushville. She was born February 26, 1938, in Acton, the daughter of George Elmer and Rachel G. (Musgrave) Wolf. On June 23, 1956, she married Don Caudell, and he preceded her in death on November 4, 1990. Mary is survived by her son, James William Caudell of Manilla; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Whitaker and husband, Fred, of Laurel; brother, Kenneth Robert Wolf and wife, Mary, of Acton; sister, Judith Brewster of Greenfield; grandchildren, Christine Whitaker of Indianapolis, James Whitaker of Manilla and Donald Caudell of Manilla; great-grandchildren, Caden Whitaker, Alyssah Whitaker and Cotton Whitaker; previous husband, Harold L. Miller of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to Don, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and granddaughter, Crystal Caudell. Mary graduated in 1956 from Franklin Central High School. She attended Main Street Christian Church in Rushville. In 1991, Mary retired from Knauf Insulation in the environmental department. She loved her Knauf family. Mary also loved the family farm. She loved to work the land by driving a tractor until she was 78 years old, as well as helping bucket feed the calves and raising pigs. She enjoyed entering her projects in the Open Class of the Rush County Fair, they included baking, cooking and crocheting. Mary was an excellent crocheter and crocheted afghans for everyone in the family. She loved to garden, both vegetable and flowers. She and her daughter shared a love for african violets and orchids. Mary was also an excellent cook. She enjoyed preparing large family meals for the holidays. Another enjoyment, in her life, was going camping and fishing with her family. She was generous, thoughtful of others and always put her family and friends before herself. Mary also leaves behind her dog, Tiny; and cat, Twinkle Toes. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 8604 Allisonville Road, Suite 104, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250.
