Mary Margaret Kellam

Mary Margaret Kellam, 73, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018 at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. She was born October 29, 1944, in Shelby County, the daughter of Melvin L. and Mildred C. (Bannon) Davies. On August 28, 1965, she married her husband of 52 years, Richard Douglas “Doug” Kellam, and he survives. In addition to Doug, Mary Margaret is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Kim Mills and wife, Denise, of Chicago, Illinois and Brad Mills and wife, Cindy, of Fountaintown; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Carolyn Lue Mills; brother-in-law, Glenn Mills; and niece, Debbie Cook. Mary Margaret graduated from Southwestern High School in 1962; and completed her x-ray technology courses at Methodist Hospital Radiology School. She was a member of the Glendale Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mary Margaret retired from Major Hospital in 2008, as a nuclear medicine technologist, with 35 years of service. She formerly volunteered at Benesse Oncology Center and the surgical waiting room at Major Hospital. Mary Margaret was a member of the Shelby County Historical Society, Master Gardeners, Herb Club and Rug Hookers of Morristown. She enjoyed perennial gardening and rug hooking. She also enjoyed bird watching and could identify most birds. Mary Margaret and Doug rescued and cared for several cats throughout the years. She was also a wonderful caregiver to her mother. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Private funeral services will be conducted. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelby County Historical Society, 52 W. Broadway St., Shelbyville, Indiana 46176. The family is thankful for the love and support of friends, Ashford Place and Community Hospice during her illness.
