Mary Jo Phelps

Mary Jo Phelps, 65, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at MHP Medical Center in Shelbyville.

She was born February 9, 1957, in Rushville, the daughter of James A. “Bill” and Mayzelle (Anderson) Brown.  On June 12, 1976, she married Allen J. Phelps, and he survives.

In addition to Allen, Mary Jo is survived by her daughters, Stacia Gayle Ping and husband, Matthew and Dee-Anna Brown and husband, David, both of Shelbyville; sons, Allen J. Phelps Jr. and wife, Heather, of Shelbyville, and Roger Allen Phelps of Rushville; sisters, Linda Newton of Georgia, and Patricia Brackney and husband, Michael, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Ashley, Mackenzie, Hayley, Creona, Alysia, Tyler, AJ III, Dylan, Joshua, Madison, Connor and Noah; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Jazmine, Braxton, Wyatt and Oakley; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary graduated in 1975 from Rushville Consolidated High School.

She had formerly attended Trinity United Methodist Church.

Mary Jo was a homemaker and enjoyed decorating her home.  She also enjoyed planting flowers.

She loved to share her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary Jo also leaves behind her boston terrier, Johnny Cash.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the funeral home, with Allen J. Phelps III officiating.

Interment will be at Lewis Creek Cemetery in Shelby County.
