Mary Aletha Sigman, 86, of Shelbyville, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at her home.
She was born on November 1, 1939, in Shelby County, the daughter of William and Ruth (Cherry) Eberhart. On September 14, 1958, she married O. Keith Sigman, and he preceded her in death on November 1, 2021.
Mary is survived by her children, Timothy Keith Sigman of Key West, Florida, Tamala Mae Sigman and husband, Doyle Brown, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Trudy Hogan and husband, David, and Anthony Kevin Sigman and wife, Kim, both of Shelby County; sisters, Martha Emminger of North Vernon, and Marcia Casburn and husband, Robert, of Norman, Oklahoma; brothers, Mike Eberhart and wife, Sherry, of Shelbyville, Martin Eberhart and wife, Margaret, and Marvin Eberhart and wife, Judy, both of Shelby County; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to Keith, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Terresa Melinda Sigman; grandson, Shane Ash; and brother-in-law, Steve Emminger.
Mary was a 1957 graduate of Shelbyville High School and attended IBM school.
She was a member of the Mount Gilead Baptist Church and Bengal Christian Church. Throughout the years Mary attended numerous churches.
Mary was a carrier for the Shelbyville News and Indianapolis Star newspapers for over 30 years.
She enjoyed watching sports on television, working puzzles and was known as a “social butterfly”. Mary had a green thumb and grew beautiful flowers.
She also leaves behind her dogs, Scout and Lucy.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Monday, December 29, 2025 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville and from 10:30 to 11:30 am, Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Mount Gilead Baptist Church, 4449 S. Smithland Road, in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will follow at 11:30 am on Tuesday, at the church with Pastors Bryan Trotter and Scott Phenis officiating.
