Marylin Sue Sylvest

Marylin Sue Sylvest, 90, of Fountaintown, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025, at her home.

She was born June 19, 1935, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Estel M. and Irene (Lucas) Midkiff. On April 24, 1970, she married Sammie J. Sylvest, and he preceded her in death on February 5, 2016.

Marylin is survived by her son, Robin M. Petry and wife, Cheryl, of Middletown, Ohio; daughter, Shelly Owensby of Fountaintown; sisters, Nancy Roberts of Alabama, and Linda Cox and husband, Jesse, of Florida; grandchildren, Amber, Josh, Jared and wife, Bethany, Lauren and husband, Jon, Cory and wife, Khristal, Chris and Chad; great-grandchildren, Luke, Dominick, Alexis, Mykaylah, Jackson, Audrey, Micah, Emmalin, Hannah, Taryn and wife, Julia, Wesley, Callie, Carlos and Annabella; daughter-in-law, Mary Petry of Greenfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to Sammie, Marylin was preceded in death by her parents; son, Earl Petry; brothers, Larry Midkiff and Phillip Midkiff; and grandson, Benjamin Mark Petry.

Marylin was a 1953 graduate of George Washington High school.

She had formerly been a member of Indianapolis Baptist Temple, where she was active in the church bus ministry by helping transport children to church. Marylin loved to visit with the children. Recently, she enjoyed attending Brookville Road Community Church.

Marylin loved spending time with her family, traveling and watching one of her favorite shows, Perry Mason, Murder She Wrote or The Rifleman.

Gathering of Friends and Family will be from 2 to 3 pm, Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. A Celebration of Marylin’s life will follow, with her grandson, Cory Owensby officiating.
