Maxine Ruth Thompson

Maxine Ruth Thompson, 86, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Morristown Manor in Morristown. She was born March 23, 1932 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Dolph G. and Violet (Clausen) Cox. On April 16, 1960, she married Ancil Thompson, and he preceded her in death on September 11, 1994. Maxine is survived by her daughters, Sandra K. Rayl of Wilkinson, Debra R. Ray and husband, Steve, Violet A. Williams and husband, Steven, and Wana Jean Spears and husband, Travis, all of Shelbyville, Clarine Creekmore and husband, Allen, of Polk City, Florida and Betty Brewer of Fairland; sons, Gary G. Thompson and wife, Stephanie, of Rushville, Merle S. Thompson and wife, Annette, of Manilla, and J. Ray Thompson and wife, Barbara, of Bloomfield; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to Ancil, Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Katherine Honeycutt; sons, William A. Thompson and James Larry Thompson; sisters, Wana Mae Harden and Margaret A. Stevens; and brother, Merle C. Cox. Maxine graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1950. She attended the Morristown Christian Church. Maxine retired from Walmart in 1998. She was also a member of VIP (Vision Impaired Group). Maxine enjoyed crafts and was excellent at needle point. She had an exceptional group of friends she enjoyed playing cards and traveling with. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Steve Ray officiating. Interment will be at Bennett Cemetery in Shelby County.
