Miriam Beatrice Campbell Senger

Miriam Beatrice Campbell Senger, 101, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, February 1, 2019 at Walker House in Shelbyville. She was born October 23, 1917 in Mosca, Colorado, the daughter of Rev. Wilbur Albert and Rev. Josephine Blanche (Pavy) Campbell. On May 31, 1941, she married Herbert William Senger, at Trinity United Methodist Church, in an early evening twilight service, performed by her mother. In 1936, Miriam graduated from Shelbyville High School and in June of 1940, from DePauw University in Greencastle. Later, she completed her graduate work in library science at Purdue University. She taught 31 years in Indiana public schools, mostly in Clinton County near Frankfort, retiring in June of 1976. Miriam was the oldest member of Trinity Church. She was also a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association. In August of 1996, she returned to make her home in Shelbyville. She is survived by several nieces and nephews including JoAnne Sennett and husband, Robert, of Warsaw, and Marjorie Beth Henderson and husband, James Russell, of Florence, South Carolina; and other extended family and friends. Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, which were both Methodist ministers; her husband in 1995; her step-father, William Weldon Huffer; brother, James Wilbur Campbell; sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Merkle; and nephews, James Phillip “Phil” Campbell and Walter Dene Senger. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 714 Fair Avenue in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at church, with Rev. Jeannetta Faye Stickford officiating, she will be assisted by Karen Fenton, Susan Sheets, David Hanson and acting minister at Trinity United Methodist Church, Seth Taylor. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
