Mormrose “Rose” Swazay, 84, of Waldron, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Major Health Partners in Shelbyville.
She was born January 9, 1941, in Grayson County, Kentucky, the daughter of Claude L. and Lois E. (Higdon) Alvey. On August 3, 1960, she married Marshall D. Swazay Sr., and he preceded her in death on February 6, 2010.
Rose is survived by her son, Marshall Jr. of Shelbyville; daughters, Peggy Stephens and husband, Gary, of Shelbyville, Dianna Klein of Waldron, Karen Barnes of Greensburg, and Kimberly Swazay of Waldron; sisters, Audrey Long of Needham, Gerline Merrick and Marilyn Pierce, both of Shelbyville; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to Marshall, Rose was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Kenneth Alvey, Jr. Thomas Alvey, Donald Alvey and Richard Alvey; granddaughter, Nicole Barnes; and son-in-law, Frederick Klein III.
Rose formerly worked at various factories, and retired from Waldron Health and Rehabilitation in 2002.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm, Friday, August 15, 2025, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral service will follow at 1 pm, with Rev. Bill Horner officiating.
Interment will be at Bennett Cemetery in Shelby County.
