Omer J. Weintraut, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather passed away on April 15, 2023, at the age of 94.  He was born on July 18, 1928, and was a native of Waldron, Indiana.

 

Omer was married to the love of his life, Carolyn (Weinantz), for 69 years, and they had a wonderful life together. They had many adventures together visiting all 50 states along with many other countries.  They shared a love of fishing and spent many happy years together in Port Aransas, Texas, casting their lines and enjoying the time together and countless friendships with many other winter Texans.  Omer was a devoted husband, and he cherished his time with Carolyn.

 

Omer was a hardworking and dedicated farmer who worked the land most of his life.  He was passionate about agriculture, and he had a deep respect for the land and nature.  He loved to watch the crops grow, and he took great pride in the fruits of his labor.  In addition to farming, Omer was an accomplished woodworker, and he enjoyed crafting beautiful objects that are cherished by many of his family and friends.

 

Omer proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean war as a radar specialist.

 

Omer was a man of faith, and he was an active member of St Vincent De Paul Catholic Church.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, and he was well-respected in his community.  He was known for his kind heart, his warm smile, and his infectious laughter.  He was a true gentleman and role model especially for children. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

 

Omer is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his two children, Linda Weintraut (husband Jack Stockrahm), Mark Weintraut (wife Julia) and his five grandchildren Leslie Cruea, Nick Johnson (wife Sarah), Zach Weintraut, Josh Weintraut, Emma Weintraut, eight great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Judy Droddy, as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and granddaughter, Tammy Johnson.

 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with the Rosary recited at 3:30 p.m..

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2023, at St Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 4218 East Michigan Road, Shelbyville.

 

Interment will follow at St Vincent De Paul Catholic Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the local military committee.
