Ovie “Dean” Rash, 85, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at his residence. He was born February 10, 1933, in Macon County, Illinois, the son of Ovie Rash and Mary A. (Hansford) Rash Simpson. Dean’s father passed away when he was only three years old, and he was raised by his step-father, Rev. Robert Simpson. On August 5, 1950, he married Ruth Verlene Raley, and she preceded in death on July 19, 2016. They lived all their married life in Shelbyville. Dean is survived by his daughters, Deanna Shipman and husband, Gary, of Jasonville, Marsha Glasco and husband, Larry, of Shelbyville, Darla Goodwin and husband, Andy, of Nashville, and Amy Cory and husband, Gregg, of Shelbyville; brother, Floyd Rash of Jasonville; sister, Betty Rady of Shelbyville; brother, Robert Simpson and wife, Reba; grandchildren, B.A. Shipman and wife, Shawn, Bret Shipman and wife,, Nicole, Deena Bodine and husband, Ryan, Eric Glasco and wife, Lauren, Joshua Goodwin and wife, Katrina, Andrea Oswald and husband, William, Amber Woodrum and husband, Austin, Jacob Williams and wife, Samantha, and Logan Williams; great-grandchildren, Bryly Shipman, Brayson Shipman, Gwendolyn Shipman, Brynn Bodine, Liam Bodine, Colin Bodine, Rowan Bodine, Marlee Glasco, Jordan Oswald, Jayden Oswald, Jasen Oswald, Madilyn Oswald, Kaitlynn Goodwin, Laine Goodwin, Samantha Goodwin, Addison Goodwin, Bryce Woodrum, Cooper Woodrum, Emerson Woodrum, Wesley Williams and Henry Williams; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to Ruth, Dean was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Gleela Stocklin Critser and Carolyn Robertson. Dean was the owner and operator of Dean Rash Trucking, Inc., a business that was near and dear to his heart. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2018 at the funeral home, with Pastors Robert Edward Simpson and Jack Simpson officiating. Interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
