Paul Allen DePrez

Paul Allen DePrez, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, in Indianapolis.

He was born on January 25, 1941, in Shelbyville, the son of Morris E. and Katherine O. (Fisher) DePrez.

Paul is survived by his sister, Susan (DePrez) Cortelyou of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In 1959, Paul graduated from Shelbyville High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Princeton University in 1963. In 1966, he received his Juris Doctor degree from University of Michigan Law School.

During his law career he practiced law in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. He was a champion for the underprivileged, seeking fairness and civil rights for all.

He was very active in the revitalization of the “Old Northside Neighborhood” in Indianapolis and preserving historic structures in general.

Paul was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Korea, during the Vietnam war.

He was a member of the American Legion and Indiana Landmarks, and a past member of the Masonic Lodge.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Indiana Landmarks, 1201 Central Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46202 or the donor’s choice of charity.
