Paul Edward Cortelyou, 70, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, September 3, 2021, at his home. He was born May 24, 1951, in Shelbyville, the son of Frank Kenneth and Carolyn (Comstock) Cortelyou. On June 3, 1972, he married his wife of 49 years, Mary Kay Zinser, and she survives. In addition to Mary Kay, Paul is survived by his son, Anthony Joseph Cortelyou and wife, Lindsay; granddaughters, Taizly and Navy; and niece, Katie Cortelyou of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert Cortelyou. Paul graduated in 1969 from Southwestern High School. In his youth, Paul attended Mount Gilead Baptist Church. Paul owned and operated Mac Tool Distributors in the late 1970’s, Shadeland Tools in the 1980’s and Cash & Carry Tools, until retiring in 2012. He enjoyed bass fishing and was a former member of the Central Indiana Bass Club. Paul also enjoyed watching auto racing, especially NASCAR. Paul loved the family farm and enjoyed the time he spent there. He also loved cats, leaving behind TJ, Smoke, Hillary, Carly and Cody. A Gathering of Friends will be from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2021 at the Cortelyou Family Farm, 6776 S. 500 W., in Shelbyville. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelbyville-Shelby County Animal Shelter, 705 Hale Road, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176 or Mount Gilead Baptist Church, 4449 S.
