Paul L. Somers

Paul L. Somers, 92, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Heritage House of Greensburg. He was born March 31, 1926, in Indianapolis, the son of Claude Somers and Elizabeth (Beard) Somers Lehr. In 1943, he married Betty L. Kidwell, and she preceded him in death on September 4, 1965. He married Sharla Wells on December 10, 1967, and she survives. In addition to Sharla, Paul is survived by his children, Steven L. Somers and wife, Robin, of Los Angeles, California, Jeffery Somers and wife, Mary, of Nashville, Janette Annalee Gatewood and husband, Barry, of Bloomfield, Quentin Somers and fiance’, Jenny Hollon, of Columbus, and Jalene Somers Chalfant and husband, Jeffrey, of Seymour; brothers, Claude Somers of Harrison, Arkansas, Gene Somers and wife, Bulah, and Joseph Somers and wife, Sue, both of Martinsville; sister, Dorothy Howard and husband, Emery, of Martinsville; grandchildren, Robert M. Somers, Sarah Gatewood, Eleanor Gatewood, Priscilla Gatewood, Edward Gatewood and Lewis Gatewood; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deborah Somers; son, Vaughn L. Somers; brother, Charles Somers; and sister, Eileen Woods. Paul was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of Westport Wesleyan Church. Paul supported youth groups and church activities for children. He and his family were traveling evangelists for two years. Paul was the co-owner of Recommended TV in Indianapolis from 1955 to 1972, he then repaired clocks at Vaughn’s Clock Shop from 1972 until 2015. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Johnson County. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vaughn Somers Scholarship at God’s Bible School in Cincinnati or Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, in care of the funeral home.
