Penny Sue Smelser

Penny Sue Smelser, 71, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis.

She was born May 14, 1951, in Tipton, the daughter of James and Mary Ellen (Small) Lord.  On February 18, 1977, she married her husband of 45 years, Ronald Smelser, and he survives.

In addition to Ron, Penny is survived by her son, James Tweedy and wife, Beth, of Shelbyville; daughters, Holly Shrader and husband, Barry, of Shelbyville, and Heather Smelser of Greenwood; sister, Terri Sue St. John and husband, Terry, of Muncie; grandchildren, Shayne, Drew, Zach, Jordan, Tyler, Brayden, Tawny and Ashlyn; and great-grandchildren, Noah, Sam and Olivia.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents.

She graduated from Delta High School in Muncie.

Penny was an artist and enjoyed making teddy bears, painting with oils, sewing and crafts.

Private family services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
