Phillip Raymond “Butch” Cherry, 68, of New Palestine passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018 at his residence.
He was born March 29, 1950, in Indianapolis, the son of Claude and Mary (Crane) Cherry. On December 10, 1976, he married Sharon Mohr, and she survives.
In addition to Sharon, Butch is survived by his son, Gary Cherry and wife, Nannie, of Loudon, Tennessee; sisters, Athalia Cherry, Theresa Snow, Kathy Bernat and husband, Bob, and Becky Morris; brothers, Doug Hilliard and wife, Becky, and Donnie Myers; grandsons, Joe Belcher and Billy Belcher, both of Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Butch graduated from Triton Central High School in 1968.
He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran, serving during Vietnam.
Butch was a member of New Life United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir.
He was formerly a cabinet maker and custodian at Triton Central High School.
Butch enjoyed fishing.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at New Life United Methodist Church, 6145 N 400 W, Fairland.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with military rites conducted by the local military committee.
Interment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
