Robert Harold Laird, 90, of Morristown passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. He was born November 17, 1927, in Shelby County, the son of Harold Hanly and Mary Margaret (Long) Laird. On June 11, 1950, he married his wife of 68 years, Christine Catherine Coers, and she survives. In addition to Christine, Robert is survived by his sons, Anthony W. Laird and wife, Kerri, of Manilla, and Roger D. Laird of Morristown; daughter, Susan L. Kuhn and husband, Rex, of Morristown; brother, Charles Dwain Laird and wife, Lossie, of Shelbyville; sister-in-law, Faith Laird of Waldron; grandchildren, Stacy Rouse, Benjamin R. Kuhn and wife, Megan, Russell T. Kuhn and wife, Danielle. Tara L. Griffith and husband, Jay, Mary C. Laird, Emily C. Laird and Aaron Gobel and wife, Teresa; great-grandchildren, Brooke Kuhn, Lauren Kuhn, Jack Kuhn, Samantha Kuhn, Hannah Rouse, Mollie Rouse, Kyra Springman, Parker Springman, Alex Gobel, Abby Gobel, Micah Price and husband, Adam, and Logan Vogler; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Frances Bush and husband, John; brothers, William Frederick Laird and Dwight Norman Laird; daughter-in-law, Catherine Ann Laird; and granddaughter, Briana Springman. Robert graduated from Waldron High School in 1945. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in Japan. Robert was a life-time member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He formerly worked at the State Bank of Waldron from 1969 to 1986. In 1986, he became the Shelby County Treasurer, and served until retiring in 1994. He was also a farmer. Robert was also a 50-year member of the Waldron Masonic Lodge No 217 F&AM. He officiated basketball, baseball, football and girl’s basketball for over 30 years. In 1973, he refereed the IHSAA boy’s state finals in basketball. Robert loved his family and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. In addition to his family, he loved animals, especially dogs. Visitation will be at 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2018 and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2018 at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, 3718 E. Blue Ridge Road in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with Rev. Dr. Robb Barlow officiating. Interment will be at Mount Pisgah Baptist Cemetery in Shelby County. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions Mount Pisgah Building Fund, 3718 E.
