Robert Bruce Vannoy

Robert Bruce Vannoy, 87, of Fairland, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis.

He was born April 11, 1935, in Indianapolis, the son of William H. and Margaret (Ryan) Vannoy.  On July 15, 1956, he married Betty Jo Amburgey, and she preceded him in death on September 20, 2017.

Robert is survived by his son, James Tracy Vannoy and wife, Sheryl, of Fountaintown; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Dewey and husband, Eric, of Indianapolis; daughter-in-law, Kimmie Vannoy of Greenwood; grandchildren, J.R. and wife, Alisha, Krystel and husband, Jimmy, Katrina and husband, Cody, T.J. and wife, Hannah, Josh and wife, Jessica, Kristen and husband, Kory, Shawn and fiance’, Christina, Samantha, Cole, Rachel and Levi; great-grandchildren, Olivia, McKinlyn, Paislee, Kinslee, James, Axel, Madi, Aunyx, Jaylen, Laiklyn, Archer, Ellie, Gavin and Gracie; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to Betty, Robert was preceded in death by his son, Robert W. Vannoy; brother, Richard L. Vannoy; and sister, Virginia Deerwester.

Robert graduated in 1953 from Arsenal Tech High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Robert was a member of Fairland Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon. 

He retired on August 1, 1997, from Ford Motor Company, where he was an assembler for over 30 years.

Robert enjoyed woodworking, working on cars and watching westerns. 

He loved his family and enjoyed attending the events that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were participating in.  He also enjoyed visiting friends and family in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky.

He also leaves behind his dog, Belle.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Fairland Cemetery in Fairland.
