Samuel J. Merrick, 73, of Greenfield passed away May 5, 2020, at his residence. He was born July 15, 1946, in Shelby County, the son of Harold and Ruth (Richardson) Merrick. On August 4, 1966, he married his wife of 53 years, Mary Neeb, and she survives. In addition to Mary, Samuel is survived by son, Samuel J. Merrick Jr. of Morristown; daughter, Jennifer Merrick-White and husband, K.C., of Morristown; grandsons, Braiton and Waylon; brothers, Richard Merrick of Morristown, and Paul Merrick of Shelbyville; sisters, Dorothy Mentzer, Bonita Dixon and Linda McDaniel, all of Shelbyville, and Susie Bolden of Indianapolis; numerous nieces and nephews. Samuel was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Clifford Merrick, Dale Merrick and Larry Merrick. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie Lodge No. 766 in Shelbyville. Samuel was a fourth generation musician, his family is currently in their sixth generation of music talent. He loved to entertain by playing the guitar and singing. Music was not his only talent. Samuel could repair just about anything, researching until he found a solution. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Teddy. Private family services will be observed. Inurnment will be at Concord Cemetery in Shelby County. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
