Sondra Jean “Sunny” Lux, 80, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Aspen Place Health Campus of Greensburg.
She was born May 9, 1938, in Shelby County, the daughter of Maynard Jones and Mary Schoephel. Sunny was raised by her grandparents, William E. and Rita Mae Jones and her aunt, Wilma “Pauline” Jones. On February 14, 1982, she married George C. Lux, and he preceded her in death on April 7, 2011.
Sunny is survived by her sons, Brent L. Montgomery and wife, Jill, of Greensburg, Brian D. Montgomery and wife, Dana, of Shelbyville, and Jason C. Meal of Florida; step-daughter, Lesa Johnson and husband, Peter; step-sons, Larry Lux and wife, Susan, and Bradley Lux; brothers, Maynard “JJ” Jones of Shelbyville, and Michael Jones of Ohio; sister, Rita Pauline Gallagher of Monument, Colorado; grandchildren, Cody Montgomery, Luke Runnebohm, Jake Runnebohm, Megan West, Noah Montgomery, Madelyn Montgomery, Benjamin Montgomery, Treyton Meal, Jaydon Meal, Rae-leen Meal, Andrew Lux and Emily Lux; five great-grandchildren; and companion, Martin “Buddy” Carr of Shelbyville.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Joshua Montgomery; husbands, Robert Montgomery, George Meal Jr. and George C. Lux; and her grandparents and aunt.
She attended Shelbyville High School and was a member of the Class of 1956.
Sunny was a beautician and the owner of Downtown Styles hair salon.
She was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ and a 50-year member of First Baptist Church, both in Shelbyville.
Sunny enjoyed traveling the world and wintering in Florida. She also enjoyed playing cards and dancing.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Rev. Alecia Gross officiating.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
