Stephen Douglas “Steve” Dagley, 75, of Waldron, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at his home.
He was born on November 21, 1950, in Shelbyville, the son of Ezra and June (Hurley) Dagley.
Steve is survived by his son, Douglas (significant other, Joy Nellis) Dagley of Greenfield; step-children, Dawn (Earnie) Holtrey of Fishers, John (Megan) Dugan, and Erin (partner, Rob Coomer) Sheridan, both of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Ryan Dagley, Emma Dagley, Rose (Harrison) Adams, Camille Holtrey, Charlie Dugan, Ryan Coomer and Ben Coomer; and great-granddaughters, Vivian Rose Adams, Janie Rose Adams and Louisiana Mae Holtrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Dagley; brother, Mike Dagley; and grandson, Christopher Holtrey. Stephen had many pets, including his beloved dog, Blitz.
In 1968, Steve graduated from Shelbyville High School.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on three different ships; the USS John F. Kennedy, the USS Coronado and the USS Shanandoah. Stephen was honorably discharged in 1975, at the rank of Machinist Mate, Second Class.
Following his years of service, he began work at Public Service Indiana as an engineer. In 1978, he worked for Rush County REMC as a staff engineer. In 1979, Steve began work in the Allison Division of General Motors, retiring after 27 years, as a Journeyman Carpenter.
After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time in his home workshop, restoring Hot Rods and doing other “hands-on” activities. In his younger days, he enjoyed SCUBA diving, flying and water skiing.
Private services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelbyville-Shelby County Animal Shelter, 705 Hale Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
