Susan L. Rhoades, 71, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born February 22, 1949, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Leonard and Thelma (Gahimer) Fox. On May 16, 1970, she married her husband of 50 years, Ronald “Ron” Rhoades, and he survives.
In addition to Ron, Susan is survived by her daughter, Sandra “Sandy” Hampton, of Shelbyville; and grandchildren, Chad Hampton, Kadie Hampton and Macie Hampton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Ann Fox; and brother, Gary Lee Fox.
Susan graduated in 1967 from Waldron High School.
She was formerly the secretary at Terra Fertilizer and Chemical for 18 years, retiring in 2001. Susan also owned and operated a lawn care service.
Susan was a member of the National Appaloosa Horse Club, Hoosier Appaloosa Horse Club and a former member of the Shelby County Western Riders.
She loved anything to do with horses, including riding on trails and showing horses.
Susan was a 4-H leader for over 20 years.
She also enjoyed playing euchre and reading.
Susan also rescued dogs, she leaves behind, Reggie and was preceded by Bailey.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2021, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Shelby County, with Buffy Powers officiating.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, CDC guidelines requiring a mask and social distancing will be observed. There will be a limit of 25 people allowed inside the funeral home at a time.
