Thelma Claire Jones

Thelma Claire Jones, 94, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026.

She was born on July 12, 1932, to Jesse and Mildred Hayes. She grew up and graduated in Boggstown, IN. She went to work in Indianapolis, IN where she was set up on a blind date with Robert Paul Jones. The were married on April 17, 1955 at the Presbyterian Church in Boggstown. They lived in Queens, NY, then Akron, OH. They finally moved back to Indiana and resided in Southport and then Brownsburg. Claire was involved in church as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. She sang with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir for many years. She rode horses, quilted and water skied. After Robert retired, they moved to Nashville, IN where Claire was involved with the Historical Society, Pioneer Women and began playing and teaching Duplicate Bridge. She was often quoted as saying “Down one is good bridge.” Claire and Robert (1929-2000) moved to Columbus, IN in 1996 and Claire lived there until January, 2026 when she moved to Compass Park Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, IN.

Claire is survived by her children, Carol Jones, Barbara (Jones) Graves, and Robert Jones Jr. She has three grandsons, nine great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Boggstown Cemetery. Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 1 pm.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
