Tommy Dale Gaines, 69, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, January 12, 2017 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis. He was born July 17, 1948, in Shelbyville, the son of Woodrow “Woody” and Marian Louise (Campbell) Gaines. On August 9, 2003, he married Dolores Barry, and she survives. In addition to Dolores, Tommy is survived by his mother of Coral Gables, Florida; daughter, Sheila Easterby and husband, Nathan, of Wichita, Kansas; sons, Larry Gaines and Tommy Gaines, both of Wichita, Kansas; step-daughter, Rebekah Garner and husband, Leslie, of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Linda Collyer and husband, Lynn, of Coral Gables, Florida; brother, Larry Gaines and wife, Gloria, of Georgia; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; and a daughter, Laura Goode. Tommy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He graduated from Shelbyville High School and attended Oxford College. Tommy was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, serving for 22 years, where he was a jet mechanic and worked on space shuttles. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, he worked at Knauf Insulation for 15 years, retiring in 2010. He enjoyed working on anything with wheels and a motor. Tommy also enjoyed riding a motorcycle. He was an organ donor. Private family services will be observed. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas, 66675.
