William Andrew English

William Andrew English, 90, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Walker Place Assisted Living. He was born September 7, 1928, in Hackensack, New Jersey, the son of Hugh B. and Karlene S. (Sebert) English. On June 25, 1955, he married Carolyn Perry English, and she preceded him in death on July 30, 2014. William is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Wheeler and husband, Dave, of Shelbyville, and Julie McCarthy and husband, Tom, of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Bill English and wife, Kim Skinner English, of Richmond; grandchildren, Jennifer Muldoon and husband, Bradley, Sarah Dean and husband, Scott, Abby English, Betsy Albrecht and husband, Cary, Bryce McCarthy, Brax McCarthy and Emma McCarthy; and great-grandchildren, Andrew Muldoon and Karlene Muldoon. In addition to Carolyn, William was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Karlene Wehrenberg. William graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1946, and received his bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1950. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Indiana since 1959. He was a 75-year member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and deacon. William was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a mechanical engineer at KCL Corporation from 1953 until retiring in 1989. William was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Blue Lodge and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Shrine, Murat Temple, Indianapolis, past director of the Shelby County Shrine Club, past president of Shelbyville Rotary Club, past Exalted Ruler of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Shelby County Purdue Boosters Club, past director of the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, 11 year member of the Purdue Alumni Foundation, director of Sixth District Purdue Alumni Association, the John Purdue Club, Major Hospital Board and Army ROTC Hall of Fame at Purdue Class of 1977. He was a past member of the Shelbyville Junior Chamber of Commerce, Shelby County Mental Health, Shelby County Heart Fund, Shelby County United Fund, Shelbyville Park Board, Shelbyville Library Board, Shelbyville City Planning Commission, Shelbyville Central School Board and past member and director of Shelby National Bank. William enjoyed traveling, woodworking, golfing and watching Purdue sports and tailgating. He also enjoyed working with leaded glass. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Freeman Family Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2018 at the funeral home, with Rev. Mark Morningstar officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, with military graveside rites conducted by the local military committee. Memorial contributions may be made to the English Family Scholarship Fund, in care of the Blue River Foundation, 54 W. Broadway St., Suite 1, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
