William J. "Billy" Simpson

William J. “Billy” Simpson, 94, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Heritage House of Shelbyville. He was born January 21, 1927, in Summersville, West Virginia, the son of William E. and Myrtle (Cassady) Simpson. Billy is survived by his nephews, William Simpson Strauss, Robert Simpson, Jacque Simpson and John Simpson and nieces, Patricia Strauss and Victoria Strauss Nunez. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Alice Simpson and Louisa Simpson Hofman; and brother, James Simpson. Billy was a lifetime sexton at First Christian Church in Shelbyville. He formerly worked for Great States, for over 20 years. Billy enjoyed going and volunteering at Shelby Senior Services. While volunteering at Shelby Senior Services, he assisted in the Adult Day Care for Alzheimer’s patients. Mayor Robert Williams honored Billy with a “Billy Simpson Day” and gave him a key to the city. He was also preceded in death by his dog, Missey. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Bill Horner and Beth Crouch officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund, 118 W. Washington St., Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
